Phaedrus’ Flight
Short description of the artwork
Phaedrus spent years building the perfect flying machine. He measured every feather, polished every gear and tightened the reins until the black horse could barely breathe. On the morning of the test, the machine refused to move.
‘I designed you to fly,’ he shouted. The horse replied, ‘You designed me never to make a mistake.’ Phaedrus looked at the smaller rider below, wobbling happily on an ordinary motorcycle, and loosened the reins. The first leap was crooked, the second too low.
On the third, horse and machine found a rhythm no calculation had predicted. They did not conquer the sky that day. They entered it, imperfectly and alive.
