Dreams and Reality
Short description of the artwork
The two hippopotamuses met nose to nose each night and exchanged dreams. One borrowed the violinist’s applause; the other took the fisherwoman’s quiet sea. Soon they woke inside the wrong lives.
The first could perform beautifully but hated being watched. The second had endless silence and missed the music. Neither wanted to admit the trade had failed.
At the next meeting, the woman cast her line between them and caught a single shining truth from each: ‘I want to be heard, but not owned.’ ‘I want peace, but not disappearance.’ They returned the borrowed dreams and kept those sentences. Reality did not become simpler. It became fitted to the creatures living it, with room for music and quiet in the same water.
