Glowing Horizon

They had been chasing the glowing horizon for years. Every evening it seemed close enough to touch; every morning it had moved farther away. One traveller polished the saddle, the other measured the distance, and their strange mount kept walking without complaint. At last it stopped.

‘Why now?’ they shouted. The animal lowered its head toward a small pool caught in the grass. Inside it, the same golden horizon trembled beside their own reflections.

They had crossed half the world looking for a light that had travelled with them all along. They never reached the edge of the sky. Instead, they learned to stop before sunset, sit together, and let the horizon come to them.
