Whisper of the Court

Whisper of the Court, from the The collection of the way of happiness series, is a 2024 oil-on-canvas work by Mahshid Moochani measuring 150 × 120 cm.

Short description of the artwork

The clown guarded a gilded cage containing one unsent sentence. Every ruler had added a lock, warning that the words inside could ruin the court. He slept beside it, joked beside it and grew old listening to the sentence pace behind the bars. One quiet afternoon the cage whispered his own name.

He opened the smallest lock. Nothing exploded. Another lock fell away, then another, until the sentence stepped into the green field: ‘I was hurt.’ It did not accuse the sky or demand a throne. It simply stood there, true.

Balloons drifted overhead. The palace walls remained. Yet the clown no longer had to spend his life guarding what needed to be spoken. By evening, the cage held only wind.
